How much smaller will it be?

Dramatically. BMP applies no compression, so a photograph can shrink by 95% or more at a sensible quality setting.

Is quality lost?

Yes — JPG is lossy, and this is the first lossy pass since BMP was uncompressed. At the default quality of 82 it is invisible on photographs.

What happens to transparency?

It becomes white. JPG has no alpha channel, so a 32-bit BMP with transparency should go to PNG instead.

Can I resize at the same time?
