FAQ
Are the removed pages really gone from the file?
Yes, and it is worth saying why that is not automatic. A PDF can have a page taken out of its page list while the page itself stays in the file, invisible to a reader but recoverable from the bytes. We measured the difference on a 307-page manual cut down to 7 pages: unlinking the pages left a 3.19 MB file, while rebuilding the document produced 0.31 MB. This tool rebuilds. If you are removing a page because of what is on it, that distinction is the whole point.
How do I choose the pages?
Click the thumbnails, or type the numbers — 1-3, 7 works, and so do the shorthands a print dialogue accepts, like 5- for "page five to the end". The two stay in step: typing updates the selection and clicking updates the field, so you can start one way and finish the other.
Does the file get smaller by the same proportion?
Rarely. Pages share the fonts and images they use, so dropping half the pages of a text document usually takes off less than half the bytes — the fonts that remain are still whole. Removing scanned pages is the opposite: each one carries its own large image, so the size falls almost in step with the page count.
What happens to bookmarks and internal links?
Bookmarks survive and follow their pages to the new numbering. One whose page you removed is dropped along with it rather than sliding onto whatever page took its place — that kind of silent drift is the thing worth avoiding here. Internal links still do not survive: the table of link destinations sits at the document level, and rebuilding the document is what makes the removal real rather than merely hiding the pages.
Is my original file changed?
No. Nothing here writes to the file you picked — the result is a new download, and your original stays where it is, untouched. Nothing is uploaded either: the document is read, rebuilt and handed back inside the tab.
Can I remove every page?
No, at least one has to stay — a PDF with no pages is a file most readers refuse to open. If what you actually want is a few pages out of many, the extract tool says it the other way round and saves you inverting the selection by hand.
