FAQ
Why is the GIF larger than my MOV?
Because GIF stores frames almost independently while modern video stores the differences between them. Shorten the clip, lower the frame rate or reduce the width — each cuts the size roughly proportionally.
How long a clip can I convert?
Practically, a few seconds. A minute of footage produces a GIF that most browsers struggle to display. For longer content, keep it as video.
What frame rate should I use?
12 fps is the default and reads as smooth for most motion. Raise it to 15 or 20 for fast action; drop to 8 or 10 for slow pans, where the size saving outweighs the visible cost.
Why does the colour look slightly speckled?
That is dithering — mixing available colours to approximate ones the 256-colour palette lacks. At normal viewing size it is a much better trade than visible banding.
Is the audio kept?
No. GIF has no audio track, so the sound is discarded. Keep the MOV or convert to MP4 if you need it.
