Why would I want OGG?
Because it carries no patent licensing, which is why games, Godot, Unity, Linux software and open-source projects favour it. If a toolchain asks for OGG, this is how to satisfy it.
Is Vorbis better than MP3?
Slightly, at the same bitrate. But converting an existing MP3 cannot exploit that — the encoder only has the reduced audio to work from, so the result is a second lossy generation.
What bitrate should I pick?
No higher than the source MP3. Matching it is safe; exceeding it only inflates the file, because there is no detail above the MP3's ceiling to encode.
Should I use Opus instead?
Technically Opus is better in every respect. Vorbis remains the safer pick for older game engines and tools that predate Opus support.
Will my phone play OGG?
Android does. iOS does not natively, and many car stereos and hardware players never implemented Vorbis — which is the usual reason people convert in the other direction.
