PNG to WebP converter
Convert PNG to WebP in your browser. Keeps transparency and typically cuts the file to a fraction of its size, using the encoder your browser already has.

FAQ
Is transparency preserved?
Yes. WebP has a full alpha channel and the conversion keeps it, which is the main reason to choose WebP over JPG for logos, icons and anything meant to sit on a coloured background.
Is this lossless?
No, not at the default settings. Quality 82 means the encoder discards detail it judges imperceptible, the same bargain JPG makes. Raise the quality if the image has sharp edges or fine text you need kept exactly.
How much smaller will the file be?
It varies enormously with content. Flat graphics and screenshots often shrink by ten to twenty times; photographs, which PNG stored inefficiently to begin with, shrink even more. The result panel shows the real figure for your file.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes — Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge have all supported it for years. The gap is in older desktop applications and some print workflows, not on the web.
Should I convert my whole image library?
For images you serve on a site, yes: the bandwidth saving is real and the quality cost is invisible. For originals and masters, no — keep the PNG. Converting an archive to a lossy format is a decision you cannot take back.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Your browser already contains a WebP encoder, so this conversion runs on the image decoder built into the page and finishes almost immediately.
Is it really free?
Yes — every conversion on this site, with no account, no watermark and no daily cap. The work happens on your own device, so there is no server bill for us to pass on to you.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in any modern browser, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is nothing to download and nothing to sign up for, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with the network switched off.
