Why does my iPhone video need this at all?
Because you want the sound without the picture — a lecture, an interview, a piece of music you filmed. Extracting it turns a file too big to email into one that fits anywhere.
How long does it take?
Seconds for a short clip, a minute or two for an hour of footage. The video is discarded rather than decoded frame by frame, so this is far faster than converting the video itself.
Can it handle a 2 GB recording?
Yes, on a desktop. Large files are read directly rather than copied into the converter's memory, which is what makes that possible. On phones the limit is 512 MB, because mobile browsers get far less memory to work with.
Will the audio be as good as the original?
Close, but not identical. The MOV's AAC track is re-encoded to MP3, which is a second lossy pass. Choose WAV instead if you need the audio for editing, since that decodes without compressing again.
Does it work for QuickTime files from a camera?
Yes. The audio track is standard regardless of what codec the video uses, so even a ProRes MOV that will not convert to MP4 will give up its audio without trouble.
Is the video uploaded?
