FAQ
How do I move a page?
Drag a thumbnail to where it belongs, or use the arrows on either side of it to step it along one position at a time. Both are here because they fail in different places: a drag is what most people try first and is unusable from a keyboard, while the arrows work anywhere but are slow over a long distance. The tile keeps showing its original page number the whole way, which is what you need to track — renumbering the tiles as they move makes it impossible to tell where page 7 ended up.
What is the reverse button for?
Double-sided documents scanned in one pass. Feed a stack through, turn it over, feed it again, and the second half arrives back to front; reversing the whole document and then moving pages around is usually faster than dragging thirty pages one at a time. It is also the quick fix for a file that was scanned from the last page forward.
Does reordering change the pages themselves?
No. The pages are copied into a new document in the order you set, without being decoded or re-encoded, so every page is byte-for-byte what it was. What changes is which position each one occupies.
Do bookmarks follow their pages?
They follow them. Each bookmark is repointed at wherever its page ended up, and the list is re-sorted so a reader's sidebar still reads down the document rather than in the old order. One consequence is worth expecting: moving a chapter in front of its own subsections separates them, and a subsection that no longer has a parent above it is promoted to the top level. Internal links still do not survive — the destination table they point at sits at the document level and cannot be rebuilt from copied pages.
Why does this need thumbnails when the other tools do not?
Because rearranging pages you cannot see is not a task anyone can do reliably. The page-number field the other tools offer works there because you are naming pages you already know; an order is something you judge by looking. That is why documents over 300 pages, where drawing every thumbnail would cost more than it is worth, are turned away here rather than given a worse interface — extracting the parts you need and merging them in the right order does the same job.
Can I check the result before downloading?
The grid is the check — it shows the order you have built, with each page under its original number, and nothing is written until you press the button. If the file still opens wrong afterwards, the usual cause is a reader that remembered a page from last time; close it and open the new file fresh.
