FAQ
What quality setting should I use?
The default of 82 is a good balance for photographs — visually close to the original at a fraction of the size. Screenshots containing text and sharp lines suffer more from JPG compression, so push to 90 or higher, or keep them as PNG.
What happens to transparent pixels?
They are filled with white, because JPG has no alpha channel. If that is not what you want, convert to WebP instead, which supports transparency and still compresses far better than PNG.
Will the JPG always be smaller than the PNG?
Usually, and often dramatically so for photographs. But a PNG of flat colours, line art or a screenshot of text can already be smaller than any JPG of acceptable quality, because PNG compresses large uniform areas very efficiently. The result panel shows the actual change.
Can I resize while converting?
Yes. Set a maximum width in the advanced options and the image is scaled down proportionally before encoding. Leave it at 0 to keep the original dimensions.
Does converting twice degrade the image?
Every JPG encode discards information, so repeatedly converting an image to JPG will visibly degrade it. Always re-encode from the original PNG rather than from a previous JPG.
Is the EXIF data kept?
No. Going through the browser's canvas discards metadata, which also means GPS coordinates and camera details are stripped. That is a privacy benefit here, but it does mean orientation tags are applied rather than preserved.

Do I need to install anything?
