Is this a real ICO file?
No. It is PNG data in a file named .ico. Browsers accept that as a favicon, which is the common case. A true multi-resolution ICO cannot be produced by a browser canvas.
Will it work as a website favicon?
Yes. Every current browser accepts a PNG payload behind an .ico filename, and this is how a great many sites ship their icon.
Can I use it as a Windows application icon?
No. Application icons, installers and shortcuts need a genuine ICO with multiple sizes packed inside. Use a dedicated icon tool for those.
What source image should I use?
A square PNG, 256×256 or larger. Output is capped at 256 pixels. Keep the artwork simple and high-contrast so it still reads at 16 pixels.
Should I use a PNG favicon instead?
Often yes. Modern sites reference a .png favicon directly and skip the .ico entirely. The .ico name is mainly for the default /favicon.ico path that older clients request.
