Is any quality lost?
None. The video and audio streams are copied into the new container without being decoded. The result is identical to the source unless you request a different resolution or quality, which forces a real re-encode.
Why would I need MOV instead of MP4?
Usually because an Apple editing tool wants it. Final Cut and older QuickTime versions treat MOV as native; some post-production workflows expect it. For playback, MP4 is the more portable of the two.
How long does it take?
Seconds, even for a long file, because nothing is being encoded. A repack is closer to rewriting the file's index than to converting it.
Will Final Cut definitely accept the result?
It accepts the container. Whether it likes the codec inside is a separate question — professional tools often prefer ProRes, which this converter cannot produce. If Final Cut still complains, the codec is why.
Are multiple audio tracks kept?
Yes, all of them. Subtitles are dropped, because MOV does not accept the subtitle formats MP4 carries.
Is there a size limit?
About 667 MB. A repack produces an output the same size as the input, and both share the memory the converter works in.
